Closet is a San Diego, CA based fashion destination, founded in 1998. As a female-owned and operated business, our vision is to curate women’s fashion apparel and accessories that balance modern trends with timeless style. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to our incredible team members and customers whose continued support makes this vision possible.

A long-standing presence in the San Diego fashion community, Closet, is known for fair prices and a welcoming shopping experience both in-store and now online. We are committed to helping customers feel confident, inspired, and supported at every stage of their style journey.

Before founding Closet, Kay immigrated to the United States from South Korea at 19 years old, carrying little more than faith, determination, and a strong work ethic. While studying acupuncture, she took a job as a janitor, never viewing any work as beneath her and trusting that every step was part of a greater purpose.

Guided by her faith in God and devotion to Jesus, Kay remained steadfast through seasons of uncertainty. Her entrepreneurial journey began by selling Walkmans and radios outside a gas station in Compton, California. She later taught herself screen printing, selling handmade T-shirts at swap meets, and eventually expanded into track suits. What began as survival slowly became a calling, igniting her passion for fashion merchandising and service.

Kay opened her first retail store in Los Angeles and grew the business to five locations. During this time, Kay was also a single mother, raising her daughter with the loving support of her own mother, a reminder that it truly takes a village.

Despite unforeseen challenges that led her to close those stores, her faith never wavered. Trusting God’s guidance, she chose to begin again and discovered Pacific Beach, the birthplace of the first Closet location. Over the years, Closet expanded to more than 20 brick-and-mortar stores throughout Southern California.

Today, Closet stands intentionally rooted in Ocean Beach, a reflection of Kay’s faith, resilience, and belief that success is not measured by scale alone, but by purpose, community, and staying true to what matters most.

Kay’s legacy lives on through her daughter, whose work focuses on enhancing the body’s natural capacity for restoration, resilience, and self-regulation, while supporting others in aligning with their divine vitality.
